Chennai: Meanwhile, the DMK has announced that an urgent meeting of its executive committee would be held on August 14 to condole the death of party president M Karunanidhi.
A DMK release from its general secretary K. Anbazhagan said all the EC members should participate "without fail" in the meeting that would commence at 10 am at the party headquarters, Anna Arivalayam, here. The agenda of the meeting is to condole the death of Kalaignar, it said.
DMK working president M. K. Stalin told reporters that no other issue would be on the EC meeting agenda. A party senior recalled that a similar EC meeting was held when DMK founder and Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai passed away in 1969. The party general council would meet later for elevating Stalin as party president. He was made the working president last January, though he has been at the helm since since October 2016 when Karunanidhi took ill.
